Test Engineer - Aerospace

The Test Engineer will perform a wide range of tasks, including product testing, validation/qualification, assembly, supply chain, inventory, and quality management, and manufacturing and engineering tasks.  The goal and purpose of the Test Engineer’s job duties will be to maintain robust operational systems to achieve manufacturing consistency, drive continual improvement, and reduce product defects and human error.

Essential Functions

  • Define and maintain test procedures for Turbines product lines;
  • Execute testing and validation/qualification of products per the defined procedures;
  • Record and document data and results of all testing performed;
  • Lead and define the testing schedule to support business needs;
  • Collaborate with applicable engineers to define acceptance criteria and limits;
  • Support the planning and implementation of an AS9100 quality management system;
  • Create and maintain appropriate documentation including, but not limited to traceability
  • materials/certifications, workflows, and quality records;
  • Monitor production controls and measures for existing and new products;
  • Define and maintain assembly processes for all product lines;
  • Improve and streamline existing assembly processes;
  • Create processes related to RMAs, non-conformances, and calibration management;
  • Lead and/or participate in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of quality events; support process
  • owners in the planning and implementation of corrective measures;
  • Develop relevant procedures and instructions to support QC methods, changes, or formalized
  • decisions;
  • Design and implement sampling procedures and related instructions for recording, evaluating, and
  • reporting quality data;
  • Lead and/or support negotiations with customers concerning quality demand fulfillment(s); and/or
  • resolution of quality deficiencies including preparing external customer documentation.


Additional Duties

  • Maintain supply chain obligations including but not limited to delivery lead-times, budget
  • requirements, supplier/vendor relationships, quality, and function specifications;
  • Source and procure components;
  • Maintain and improve a physical inventory organization system to ease material replenishment
  • review, including subsequent purchases as required to fulfill production demands;
  • Prepare and send RFQs;
  • Create RMAs and shipments;
  • Complete incoming inspections of materials on time;
  • Perform “kitting” of jobs as sales orders are received and inventory needs are defined;
  • Check all new vendors and reps in global trade management software;
  • Provide quality assurance, as needed, and collaborate with local and international leadership;
  • Communicate with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery and escalate delivery requirements, as
  • needed, to meet production goals;
  • Conduct selected internal audits, as needed, and help drive resolution of audit outcomes;
  • Participate and support industrial layout and equipment optimization projects;
  • Work on operational efficiency methods (i.e. Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or related methods);
  • As assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work on complex customer projects and programs;
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook);
  • Proficient in the use of CAD systems (Solidworks or NX preferred) and ability to work with/interpret
  • engineering drawings;
  • Keen attention to detail;
  • Highly positive, dynamic personality;
  • Strong time-management and conflict-resolution skills; self-starter; highly motivated;
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes (i.e. machining, forming, soldering, and fabrication);
  • Familiar with controls software (LabVIEW or similar);
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to maintain and improve vendor/supplier relationships;
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced product development environment;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small team environment, while offering assistance and expertise to
  • other cross-functional team members as required for project execution;
  • Familiar with Military/Aerospace specifications and compliance systems such as MIL-STD-810, MILSTD-461, and DO-160.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university;
  • Minimum three years of experience in test engineering, operations, or manufacturing;
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in the assembly and testing of complex electro-mechanical
  • assemblies in a production or prototype environment in the aerospace, defense, or engineering fields;
  • Prior experience working in an aerospace quality control (AS9100) and manufacturing environment,
  • preferred;
  • Experience with turbine engines preferred;
  • Prior experience with project management and documentation practices preferred;
  • Proficient level of working mechanical/electrical knowledge;
  • A combination of skills and experience may be considered;
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
  • Work is generally performed in a manufacturing and office environment;
  • Occasional travel required.


Decision-Making Authorities

  • Authority to question the integrity of manufacturing and QC activities;
  • Authority to withhold a shipment or further processing of a suspicious, non-conforming product;
  • Authority to select and assess vendors;
  • Authority to negotiate and approve vendor payment terms.
